STOMPBALL - FINAL

Exercise of concept art about a fictional sports universe.

Required inspiration: Speedball

Personal inspirations : Football, Rugby, Bloodbawl

Stompball is an imaginary sport ; a mix of ball games, wrestling and tactics.

In the universe which it takes place, stompball is a very popular sport.

Knowns for its "ultra violence", it has long been practiced as an alternative to clan wars between different races of humanimals.

His tactical side and the violence of his game is supposed to serve as a paramilitary demonstration for clans or, here, an academic institution.

Each team is made up of six players divided into the following roles:

- Winged: responsible for tactical modifications on the field, he or she is the leader of offensives towards the end zones; three times per quarter, he can ask the help of the pagot to moving forward; must avoid lines and flanks

- Flanks: principal support for the winged, they distribute play by attacking or defending the side lanes; must avoid lines and pagot

- Pagot: often the slowest player in the team, its position is central in the defense and support of the offensive phases; thanks to its body mass it must prevent the winged from passing or support the progress of the ball holder; must avoid lines and flanks

- Lines: imperatively formed by a duo, the lines are the only positions that allow contact with any player; equipped with “Kros”, these adjustable waist bats, they must interfere with the opposing game; almost all hits are ok, however, when the opponent is down, hits by Kros are no longer allowed

As part of the exercise, I focused on an alternate team in a college sports setting.

From the short scenario that I had invented to compose my team, I decided to vary the morphologies of the players in order to recompose the game structure.

The Rutilants therefore have the particularity of possessing

. two winged instead of one, respectively anthropoid (monkey) and lycanthrope (wolf), nimble enough to avoid a maximum of contacts to build the game

. only one flank, an ornithoid (bird) fast enough to quickly cover the side edges on its own and provide racing opportunities for the winged ones

I imagined the Atlas Academy as a training center for future political pundits of the clans to which they belong.

Atlas being the name of the titan who holds the world on these shoulder. The parallel seemed obvious to me with the formation of ambitious and capable politicians (well, that's all the good I wish them).

I like very much the idea of making an academic stompball players into tacticians rather than brainless bullies.

Team B would therefore find themselves an outsider in the selections for the university championships because their team relies above all on strategy rather than brute force alone.
